There is a lot I love about our CG Worship Manifesto. I love how simple it is, how profound it can be, and how applicable it is! I came across an email in my inbox from a lady named Charmaine Brown who runs a website called, The Worship Vocalist. As I was reading this email I couldn't help but think about a specific point in our manifesto: We choose the word of God over the words of people. (Sometimes the "words of people" are really just the lies we tell ourselves) - more to that point later ha!
While her email was geared to vocalists, I think there is application for everyone, no matter the area in which you serve. Check it out and try out what she suggests. And remember, when it comes to discernment: Ask God, test it to his word, and be an active part of biblical community!
I hope this encourages you!

For YEARS when I started singing and worship leading, I was so hard on myself (and I can still fall into that trap sometimes if I’m not careful!)… and especially as I began training my voice, I was more aware than ever of how far I was falling short of where I wanted to be! I would feel so discouraged after leading worship… if my voice cracked, if I didn’t hit the high note, if I had a hard time finding my harmony part… you name it.
What are the negative thoughts you've had about your singing? Have you found yourself thinking about them MORE often as you prepare to lead worship? (A difficult practice session maybe?) And probably like me… after you’ve led worship? (Ahhhh… I sang that so much better at home!)
“I’m never gonna be able to sing well.”
“Everyone else is better than me.”
“I’m just not a good singer.”
Friend—these thoughts tend to snowball very quickly, and we can’t let them! The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy—he plants seeds of doubt and discouragement, and he loves when we let those seeds grow. So make a choice right now to pull out those weeds in your garden… take every thought captive… because they’re only choking out the life and health that God wants you to have!
Identify and write down those thoughts... and don’t stop there. Take a few minutes to ask…
“God what do you say about me?”
“What are the truths that you say about me?”
And then… just listen, and write down what you hear! I promise you—He has so many GOOD things to say!
