Hopefully Everyone has worn their new CGWorship T-shirt that says GOD ALONE on the side. It also has a key portion of Psalm 100 on the hip. We wanted you to have this gift because we value you. But, most importantly this shirt reminds us of a key part of our CGWorship Manifesto!... God Alone is Who and Why we worship.
As i reflected on Psalm 100 and this foundational truth for our team, i thought it worth a share...
1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Verses 1,2 and 4 overflow with words like Joy and praise and gladness and thanksgiving and praise! Those amazing words follow the command to SHOUT!!! And not just you and me... but the command is for ALL the world. In part, the psalmist is showing us how we should worship. But more importantly, the psalmist in verses 3 and 5 is showing us who we worship. Know that the Lord is GOD. HE made us. We are HIS (vs 3)... and HE is good, HE is always faithful and HIS love endures forever (vs 5). Wrap your heart around that... the creator of the universe ALWAYS keeps HIS promises and HE is good and loving... and HE loves me and has promised to save me... forever?! How profoundly wonderful is that! That is who HE is, AND It is because of who HE is that we worship HIM. In this broken world, there are so many lesser things to worship. But, when we pause to look at the things we spend our hearts and minds on... when we recognize who we actually are... and then we look to see who HE truly is. WOW! No wonder the psalmist said to shout! There is none like HIM!
As a team, what a gift it is to proclaim who HE is. Have you ever thought about the fact that we will literally spend eternity in worship? What a treasure it is to lead others to worship this weekend.
God alone is who and why we worship.
