WEDNESDAY | APRIL 5

Follow along with the events of Easter week, leading to the death and resurrection of Jesus. Each day, scripture readings and reflection prompts will guide us to pause and meditate on the reality of Easter.

WEDNESDAY

The Wednesday before Easter has been commemorated in various ways throughout church history. When push comes to shove, it is unclear exactly what events transpired on this day. This doesn’t mean there is not something for us to set our minds on as we move closer to the cross.

In fact, the Bible’s relative silence on the events of Wednesday give us an opportunity to pause ourselves and reflect on God’s work in our world and His imminent work on the cross.

Instead of reflection questions, the challenge today is to read Psalm 8 and spend two minutes in silence. In our hustle and bustle culture, spending any amount of time in silence and solitude can be difficult. This is all the more reason why it is important!

The goal of silence is to remember God is in control, He gives us our lives as a gift, and He doesn’t need us to participate in constant activity in order for Him to accomplish His purposes.

Psalm 8

PAUSE + REFLECT
Sit silently, focused on the images in Psalm 8, for 2 minutes.

Family Worship

Each day, we’ve provided a family element for those with younger children (toddler – elementary) that ties into the theme of the adult devotional. Whether it’s in the morning, at mealtime or at bedtime - we encourage you to read, talk, and pray together! We’ve included both scripture and a passage from the Jesus Storybook Bible that goes along with the day’s theme. Choose whichever is best for your family for the daily reading. We’re praying for God to move in the hearts in your home this Easter.

READ ABOUT IT
A fun way to engage kids with scripture is to act it out!

Jesus Storybook Bible: Washed with Tears (page 280)
John 12:1-8

TALK ABOUT IT
Guide discussion and let kids ask their own questions too!

1. This is kind of a strange thing to us…putting perfume on someone’s feet and wiping it with your hair? But at the time that Jesus lived, this was a HUGE deal.
2. Think of something that is like a treasure to you. Now imagine you decided to give it away, just like that. Would you give it to just anyone or would it be someone special?
3. Mary knew exactly who Jesus was. She knew He was special and deserved her very best. He deserves our very best too!
