Today is the beginning of Easter Week. As we look forward to preparing our hearts for Easter, begin by praying for yourself and ask God, through his Holy Spirit, to show you more of his heart as you engage with the story of Jesus and his mission to reconcile all things to himself.
SUNDAY
READ
Luke 19:28-44
PAUSE + REFLECT
- Reflect on the humility of Jesus. The King of Kings rides in on a humble donkey but with this, he is ushering in a kingdom that is built on humility and self sacrifice. Pause and ask God to reveal ways you can follow King Jesus’ path of humility and sacrifice today.
- Jesus saw the city of Jerusalem and wept for their unbelief. Reflect on Jesus’ heart for those who are far from him. Reflect on his love for you.
PRAY
Take some time to pray through the Lord’s Prayer as you end your time today.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name
Thank God for who He is and His abundant faithfulness.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Pray for God’s rule and reign to become a reality.
Give us today our daily bread.
Pray for God’s daily provision in your life.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Confess your sins to the Lord, and forgive people who have wronged you.
And lead us not into temptation,
Ask for God to guide you in “paths of righteousness for His name sake”.
But deliver us from the evil one.
Pray for God’s protection against any of the strategies of Satan.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Family Worship
Each day, we’ve provided a family element for those with younger children (toddler – elementary) that ties into the theme of the adult devotional. Whether it’s in the morning, at mealtime or at bedtime - we encourage you to read, talk, and pray together! We’ve included both scripture and a passage from the Jesus Storybook Bible that goes along with the day’s theme. Choose whichever is best for your family for the daily reading. We’re praying for God to move in the hearts in your home this Easter.
READ ABOUT IT
A fun way to engage kids with scripture is to act it out!
Jesus Storybook Bible: The King of All Kings (page 192)
John 12:12-15
John 13:3-5
TALK ABOUT IT
Guide discussion and let kids ask their own questions too!
1. People thought the Messiah would arrive as a noble king or a great hero. What kinds of things does a king or hero do? What do they look like? How do they act?
2. Instead, Jesus came as a humble servant. This is pretty much the opposite of what people were expecting. How would you feel or react if you were them?
3. What do you think it means to be “humble”? When have you seen someone act “humbly”?
PRAY ABOUT IT
Use PART to guide your prayer time and make it your own.
Praise | Wow God, you are…
Admit | God, I’m sorry…
Request | Please help…
Thanksgiving | Thank you for…
